Lady Presidents Day at Portstewart Golf Club

Lady President Mrs May Johnston hosted her very successful Presidents Day recently at Portstewart Golf Club.

Seventy three members played on the Strand Course with sixteen on the Riverside course. At the well supported evening dinner May presented the successful competitors with their prizes. Overall winner on the Strand with an excellent score 42 points was Moyra Gowland and Julie McCartney playing off 14 won best gross with 23 gross points. Caroline McMullan claimed runner up spot with 35 points sending Lynne McCartney, also with 35 points, into third place. The front nine went to Lady Captain Mo Giffin with Kathleen McIlfatrick winning the back nine. Lynne Gibb won the Committee prize and Maureen Austin was the golden girl. The Riverside winner was Bertha Dalzell with Eleanor McLaughlin in second place and Lottie Logue claiming the Golden Belle spot.

Gillian McMullan won the Stableford Competition in Open Week with 42 points. Best gross was won by Hanna Henderson from Ballyclare playing off 5. Nula McNeill won the front nine and Brenda Strain won the back nine.

The annual EJ Donnelly Competition generously supported by ‘Couples’ was played on the Riverside Course with 59 members and 24 visitors playing in glorious weather. Betty Taylor and Iris Adger representing the local Red Sails Festival attended the evening prize giving. The overall winner was Kilrea visitor Nula Friel with 41 points playing off 18. Diana McKay with 40 points was runner up with Rosemary Lamont from Carrickfergus in third position. The front nine went to Irene Murray and back nine to Maureen Clements.

Congratulations to both Minor and Challenge Cup Teams who have won through to their respective semi-finals to be played at Roe Park Golf Club on Sunday 11th August. Good luck to both teams from the Ladies Branch!
