McKay has his best round of the year at Roe Park
Roe Park was no exception with only one competition possible, a Club Stableford played on Saturday.
With the Turkey and Bottle series of competitions coming to an end shortly there was no shortage of golfers looking to participate and bag themselves an added Christmas present.

Hide AdJohn McKay was one of the early starters and scored an excellent 42 points. This was by far his best round of the year and was enough to win the competition.
He certainly started with a bang as he birdied the first three holes netting 12 points alone for those.
He could have been forgiven for getting ahead of himself as he proceeded to bogey the next seven holes, finishing with a solid 21 points for the front nine.
He started the back nine with a bogey followed by two nerve settling pars before bogeying the tough 13th and 14th holes.

Hide AdWith a great round still within reach John steadied himself to birdie the 15th and par the 16th.
A bogey followed at the 17th again threatening to scupper a good score, but John is made of sterner stuff and promptly birdied the last hole to finish with a back nine total of 21 points.
Next year’s captain Frank Boyd barely put a foot wrong to finish in second place, scoring a superb 41 points.
If anyone ever needed to know how to score around a golf course then Frank’s your man as he recorded eight pars and 10 bogeys.

He started his round with a dreaded ‘ding’ but recovered enough to record 10 pars and seven bogeys to give him a grand total of 39 points.
The Turkey and Bottle series of competitions finishes this week with a return to the usual Club Stableford’s every Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
There will also be a Boxing Day two-man scramble to look forward to with a huge turnout expected as always.
