Thompson duo clean up at Roe Park

Another busy week at Roe Park saw no less than four competitions including two Open Stablefords.

The first of which was the MayDay Open Stableford on Monday sponsored by Frank Owens Bar.

Thursday saw a Club Stableford with the top three all scoring 37 points. Robert Godfrey had the better back nine holes to take the win with Father Liam McClarey taking second place and John McKay third. Last years’ Golfer of the Year Kieran Berryman started the defence of his title with a fine round to take the gross prize.

An Open Club Stableford on Friday saw Resident PGA Professional Michael McCrudden put up some great prizes.

In much wetter conditions of late Chris Thompson continued his fine form improving on his second place on Monday to seal victory with 35 points.

Chris’ dad Alan Thompson was a very close second scoring 33 points and taking third with 30 points was Robert Godfrey.

The Pierce Purcell team travelled to Ballymena GC where they qualified in style finishing in first place overall. Captain Neville Martin and his rookie partner Jonathon Forsythe led the way with a solid round of 81.

The new, big hitting partnership of Jamie Vinnicombe and Keith Loughery worked well as they too had a solid round scoring 83.

This week sees the biggest event of the year so far on Saturday as Roe Park holds its annual Club Fundraiser Open Stableford with some amazing prizes provided by sponsors DMC Mortgage & Properties.

The George McKeever Individual Matchplay and Geoffrey Conn Doubles Matchplay first rounds get under way this week with members spending more time than usual at the Driving Range in preparation.

Resident PGA Professional Michael McCrudden will be as busy as always holding a Ping Fitting Day on Thursday with only a few spaces left.

Golfer of the Year continues this week with Andy Young top of the table on 27 points. Ricky Cochrane is second on 20 points followed by Liam Berryman on 16 points.
