On Saturday, Matthew Hewitt took on the ‘Born 2 Run’ Gosford 10k in Markethill, County Armagh.

The talented endurance athlete, who just missed a podium spot at the Race Over the Glens on New Year’s Day, produced a strong performance to claim second spot, covering the undulating off-road course in 36:33.

Closer to home, eight East Coast AC members completed the Larne parkrun, a free weekly 5k time-trial, starting and finishing at Dixon Hall, Drains Bay.

The ever-consistent James Robinson ran well, leading the field home in 20:16 (1st place). Larne parkrun regular, and bright prospect, Christopher Harkin took 24th place in 29:03. Ruth Kelly followed just eight seconds later in 29:11 (5th place lady).

Paul Cunningham slashed two minutes off his time from the previous week, clocking a new parkrun personal best of 31:34 (33rd place).

Paul’s performance is made all the more notable when considering that he has taken four minutes off his 5k personal best since coming through the club’s successful Couch to 5k programme in the Summer.

Maria Glenn and Cyndy Hay both ran well, with Maria recording 32:50 (11th place lady) and Cyndy 33:08 (12th place lady).

A special mention must go to East Coast Cheetah Jude Johnston, who also completed the parkrun with his mum Nicola Robinson.
