Some good interlinking play between Tori Hastings and Maeve McNally saw a strong attack down the right resulting in a penalty corner when Carolyn Burns was obstructed in the circle.

A well rehearsed penalty corner routine saw a goalmouth scramble by Rainey’s eager forwards causing great difficulties for the Carrick defence.

Unable to clear, the opposition conceded an obvious penalty stroke when a Carrick defender used her body to prevent a sure goal. Tori Hastings stepped up to the mark to execute a perfect stroke high to the goalie’s left.

A goal so early on in the game seemed to spur Rainey on and Rosie Taylor and Kirsty McLarnon combined beautifully with Rachel Burns to create many probing runs down the left. Jenna Bowman collected a pass and after rounding several Carrick defenders sent a great ball into the circle for Carrick to concede another corner. A slip to Tori Hastings at the circle edge allowed her to claimed her second of the match.

Rainey now settled into a relaxed pattern of play and Louise McMaster as reliable as ever, controlled play from deep giving some great passes to her fellow defenders and midfielders.

Such a pass saw an ever improving Coreen Ferguson latching onto the end, rounding the keeper to make it 3-0.

Carrick rallied and with some good play through their midfield caused Rainey to conceded a couple of penalty corners. Under the direction of Rebecca Allen any threat on the Rainey goal was ably dealt with.

Rainey were to continue their dominance, with the midfield producing some good constructive passes for their tireless forwards. Emma Currie harried the Carrick defence and sent through a great ball which the youthful Carolyn Burns picked up and kicked past the advancing Carrick keeper.

However Rainey had saved the best to last with a cracking goal scored by Lorraine Hyndman. Maeve McNally and Emma Currie again working well together sent a ball to Jenna Bowman who nonchalantly sent a reverse stick cross crashing into the circle for Lorraine Hyndman to superably deflect past the keeper. A great, well taken goal to leave the final score at 5-0 in Rainey’s favour.

This was a well deserved result reflecting the good teamwork and commitment showed by all. Thanks to sponsors Brysons, all those who supported from the sidelines, and to umpire Colin Barnes and coach Ricky McGaw. Man of the match- Tori Hastings.
