Inst teams head down south

CAI Medallion and U14s travelled to Dublin last week for a four day training camp.

This was an intense four days with up to three training sessions per day. The trip came to a conclusion with a match against Sullivan Upper Medallion A and B teams last Monday. The Medallion A XV Rounded off their tour to Dublin with an excellent 19-0 victory against Sullivan Upper on Monday afternoon at Hollywood, Belfast.
Playing into a very strong wind the boys from Coleraine knew they had a real battle on their hands against a mobile Sullivan side that had some strong and physical runners in their back row and in the backs.
The Coleraine pack dominated the first half with some strong carries from Hamilton, Bradley, Milsopp and McKee. The scrum was a real weapon with Coleraine driving Sullivan back at will and Jack Kilgore and Peter Wisener causing havoc at Lineout time.
Late in the first half Coleraine scored a contender for try of the season. From turnover ball in their own half the forwards linked with the backs and some great footwork and neat hands from Thomas Lavery put Daniel McCreadie through a gap. The outside centre who was Man of the Match showed great pace and agility to run half the pitch to touch down under the posts with Ally Telfer converting. This left the score 7-0 at half time.
The boys started the second half with great pace and intensity. They made inroads into the Sullivan defence but a number of errors prevented a change in the scoreline. The boys showed great patience and maturity scoring two excellent tries midway through the half. Sullivan through everything at the Coleraine defence in the last few minutes but the away side stood firm. Cavan Tayler, Callum Beggs leading from the front with some big tackles and well worked turnovers. In the backs Zach Hutchinson led the team well and Jack Carmichael and Glenn Scroggie really stepped up to the mark.
