Irwin hat-trick fires Swift to victory over Scorpions

The Swift boosted their Carrick and District Pool League title hopes with a 10-4 success at Scorpions.

Paul Roberts’ team were clinical, winning both sessions 5-2 thanks to a Dee Irwin hat-trick and doubles from Craig Crawley, Rab Butler and Andy Arbuthnot.

Defending champions Greenisland Galacticos demolished Whitehead Trojans 12-2. Dean McDonagh got the party started with a hat-trick, while Chris Carson won two out of three. Paul Harris, John McClean, Steve Carson took two from two.

Third played fourth as Doagh Weapons entertained Hitmen & Her in a match both teams badly wanted to win. With Weapons’ nanager Tyler McConnell away at the world championships, Stephen Herron was drafted in as cover and he didn’t disappoint with a well-taken hat-trick helping his side to a 9-5 success.

Whitehead Spartans saw off Greenisland Colts 9-5. Harry Warwick’s Colts took the first two frames before Stephen Johnston kicked off a seven-frame burst that included an impressive hat-trick of his own.

Elsewhere, Rathcoole outfit Eastway lost 8-6 at home to Greenisland Working Men’s Club, while the Cowboys chalked up an 11-3 win over Alpha.

There was nothing to separate Teddy Bears and Warriors who played out a 7-7 draw.
