Local promotion and relegation issues take a back seat

Clubs who are currently sitting on the knife edge of promotion and relegation issues will be forced to take a back seat over the forthcoming weeks as the Championship season reaches its most crucial stage.

At the weekend the sudden death nature of games in all three competitions will either bring closure, or a new beginning for teams many of who have been training since early January.

Despite their heroic performance against Dromintee last Sunday St. Paul’s were forced to bow out of the Senior Series, and the Lurgan side will have to wait until the final game of the season against Maghery before their Division 1 fate is known.

At the weekend Championship wins for both Wolfe Tones and Sarsfields have set the North Armagh sides up for winnable second round games. The Tones who beat Tir na Nog last weekend will play a struggling Killeavey side at Abbey Park on Saturday 6.15pm with the winners progressing to play title second favourites Armagh Harps.

Sarsfields following their extra time demolishing of Forkhill who were level with the High Moss at the end of normal time will travel to Ballycrummy to play Ballymacnab a side who ironically were beaten last time out by Annaghmore.

Clan na Gael await the winners of the Intermediate Championship clash between Clann Eireann and An Port Mor which is fixed for Maghery at 6.00pm.

Eire Og if overcoming Middletown would set up for a rematch against Grange.
