Maghery clinch title

MAGHERY deservedly clinched the First Division title at Ballycrummy in Armagh City last weekend when they beat Cullyhanna in a play-off.

The lough shore club, who finished as runners-up in the league over the past two seasons, have won the first division title for the first time since 1993. The Sean McDermott’s had been out in front of the top flight almost since the first day of the season yet, under the new league structures, had to compete in a play-off despite topping Division One by a margin of seven points.

Maghery’s rise to the top has been illustrated by their club’s representation on recent Armagh squads which has grown considerably over the past number of years. They beat Crossmaglen twice this season and ran the All Ireland club champions to their closest margin in championship football this year.

Domestically, Maghery have proven to be one of the best sides in the county and could not be ruled out of the running for Senior Championship glory when their fast maturing side reaches its full potential.
