McCloskeysecures successin Galway

CITY of Derry Squash Club chairman, Gerry McCloskey recently claimed the Connacht Open Masters title with an excellent victory over Leinster’s number one seed, Damien O’Rielly in the final in Galway.

McCloskey defeated the Leinster man 3-1 in the decider and will now be selected to represent Ireland and Ulster in the interprovincials and other upcoming squash tournaments.

This was not only an outstanding personal achievement, but an indication of the fantastic progress which is being made within the local squash club which was set up just last September.

The City of Derry Squash Club are currently competing in the N.I. Squash Leagues and occupy a mid-table position in Division One of the Ulster Squash League.

With another nine games to play following the Christmas break, the local team have an excellent opportunity of finishing in the top three in N. Ireland.

The club committee would like to remind members about the Brooke Park closed squash tournament which will be held on January 7.

And the club look forward to welcoming new members and spreading the word about the health benefits for both men and women in the new year.

The club starts back on Thursday, January 12, with a club night which involves activities and coaching to further the skills and discipline that the game demands
