McPeake takes third in Portglenone

ATHLETES were accidently sent the wrong way in the Portglenone 5K inlcuding Sperrin Harrier Christopher McPeake who was leading the race at the time.

However, Chris battled back to regain the lead but the extra effort he put in to get back to the front told over the last 400 metres when he was caught by Gregory Walsh NBH first and Matt Wray second with Chris 3rd in a time of 17mins 11.

Next Harrier to cross the line was Pierce McCullagh having a great run to finish in 6th in 17mins next and having a great race and still on the comeback route after a lot lot of injuries was Glenn Donnelly in a time of 17-34. Adrian “Fred” Devlin was the next Harrier home and ran a Pb 18-51, with Alan Shaw not far behind him in 19-17 then Rodney Young another athlete only back after injury finishing in a time of 19-47.

Next and winning his category was Irwin Spiers in 20-12, then Kevin Murphy in a great time of 20-50, next to finish was Dean Corey who had a great run and was rewarded with a Pb 21-00 with Gerard McNally not far behind in 21-16 then came the first of the ladies - Rosemarie Devine in a pb time of 24-23 and Bernadette Mc Nally in 28-18.

Harriers clean up

at Castledawson

ANOTHER great day’s running from the Harriers with wins at the Castledawson 10K, The Silent Valley Dambusters 10 mile and Craigavon 5K Park Run and also a second and third at Draperstown 10K.

At Castledawson, Christopher McPeake had another great win in a time of 35-05 where he led from start to finish with Niall Brown 2nd u/a While Natasha Henry was also victorious in the Ladies race in a 46 plus also competing in the race was Karen McElroy who finished in a time of next was Deidre Bradley who finisfed in a PB time of 53-02, with Maureen Mallon next.

Then it was a quick drive over to Draperstown where the Harriers had three runners in action. Adrian “Fred” Devlin ran his best race for the Harriers when he finished a good second behind Jason Walsh in a time 39-36 with Alan Shaw 3th in 40-35, and Gavin Wylie not far behind him in 42-36.

Karen Alexander ran a great race at the Dambusters 10mile to win the Ladies title in a time of 1:04:53 on a very tough course While.Donal Gallagher had another win in the Craigavon 5k when ran a good time of 17-06, Gareth Cardwell was our athlete to cross the line in a time of 19-10 next across the line was Russell Bell in a time of 22-20

Waterside

Half success

TWENTY-two Sperrin Harriers were competing in Derry in the Waterside half marathon and it was a great day for the Harriers with 15 of them having personal best runs. More than a 1000 athletes gathered at the starting line for what was sure to be a great race.

As the runners got to the halfway mark the leading Harrier was Aaron Meharg who was having a great run and was up in the top 20 and not far behind him were three more Harriers Fergal Mulgrew, Aidan O’Hagan and Paul McLaughlin with Ryan Trainor, Martin Loughran and Sean O’Gara.

In another group there wasn’t much to separate three of our Ladies Tanya Black, Joanne Bell and Grainne Heaney. It wasn’t long till the first athlete Stephen Duncan on Omagh winning in a time of 68-52 with Declan Reed Derry 2nd 69-03 & Noel Logan Derry 3rd 72-00 and we did’t have long till the first red & white vest was seen sprinting down the finishing straght and it was Aaron Meharg that was leading the Harriers home again in a Pb time of 77-50 and there was a great finish from the next two Harriers who had ran the race together and it was Fergal who crossed the line next in a Pb of 81-39 with Aidan right behind him in 81-42, Paul was our next runner over the line also in a Pb of 82-54 with Ryan next in Pb 87-15, then in a Pb was Martin in 88-23 then Sean 89-57 Martin McGirr was next 91-24, Darren Warnock 95-37,Gary McGuckin 97-28,Martin Donaghy pb 97-28, Barry O’Neill 98-49, Jeremy Dobson Pb 99-40, Jason O’Neill 1-41-32, Adrian McCann Pb 1-43-08 .
