MISSION : IMPOSSIBLE is on for Glebe

GARETH Scott paid tribute to the "indestructible spirit" of his Glebe Rangers side as they continue to strive towards what appeared to be Mission Impossible just weeks ago - Championship 1 survival.

Scott was delighted following Saturday's victory over Ballymoney United courtesy of sharp-shooter Trevor Parkhill's stunning second half strike which saw Glebe take another huge step in battling relegation.

The Rangers side looked destined to drop down a division just weeks ago after a dreadful run of results.

But since Scott's appointment Glebe have stunned local football with a remarkable turn in fortunes which has seen them go six games unbeaten including victories over Ards and Bangor.

The 11 point haul taken in March was the joint highest in the league along with Ballinamallard and Donegal Celtic.

And they Cruised to another three points against United with a combative performance.

"There is an indestructible spirit we have generated at the moment," Scott told Times Sport.

"The group has pulled together and Mission Impossible is on as long as we continue to apply ourselves as we have done."

Scott had no trouble motivating his players following their mauling at the hands of their rivals in the earlier half of the season.

On that occasion they were given the run around but redeemed their pride through Saturday's battling performance.

"We had a few one-on-one chances but people will be talking about the goal we did score," said Scott.

"The finish from Parkhill was sublime to say the least.

"At the other end Brian Kane made a save which was Gordon Banks like.

"I would rather have Brian than Gordon Banks though Banks is a bit better looking and probably more agile, even now!

"Brian was exceptional as was William Wharry.

"William is one of the difference makers who probably does so without being noticed. He is a top centre-half.

"On Saturday the difference was one team is a comfortable top six side and the other is clawing for everything they can get to keep them in the division.

"I thought we were the better team on the day."

The key now as far as the manager is concerned is to keep the momentum going with Armagh City next up for Glebe at the Riada Stadium on Saturday.

"We have got ourselves into a good position now and it is important we carry it on into the Armagh game," he said.

"It is all about Armagh now for us.

"Our biggest obstacle now is complacency. We have set a high standard for ourselves and we have to keep that going."
