Alexander in top form at Ballinderry

KAREN Alexander was in top form in the Ballinderry 10k last Saturday when she was a clear winner of the Ladies open race.

Around 100 athletes took part in the race and at the first mile marker the 20 red and white vests of the Sperrin Harriers Club were well to the front.

The leader at the mile was Aaron Meharg of the Harriers with team mate Christopher McPeake at his shoulders with North Belfast Harrier runner Tommy Hughes from Maghera hot on their heels with Aidan O’Hagan next followed by Paul McLaughlin and Karen Alexander all from the Harriers with young Bliadhan Glass U/a from the Maghera area in among them.

Also in there in the top 10 were Alan Shaw and Adrian Devlin of the Harriers and James McKee of the Ballinderry club While in the Ladies race the winner from the Donaghmore 5 mile Helana Quinn was running well in 2nd place in the ladies with Emma Bell third and at the half way mark Christopher was out in front and looking for a win but Tommy was not letting him go too far and was right on his heels.

But when the first athlete entered the field it was Tommy Hughes that was heading well clear of the rest to win in great style in a time of 34-35, with Chris 2nd in 35-23, with Aaron having a great run to finish 3rd in a Pb of 36-49.

Next to finish was Aidan 37-29 followed closely by Karen Alexander in a great time of 38-13 with young Bliadhan next in a Pb of 38-24. Next home and winning the O/40 catt was Paul in 38-31, with James next in a Pb 39-20, then Adrian was next in 39-51, then Alan Shaw 39-59.

While in the Ladies race Helena finished 2nd in 42-52 with Emma 3rd in 50min

Rathlin half

WELL done to Marty McGirr who was the only Sperrin Harrier at the Rathlin half marathon, Marty ran a great race on a very tough course to finish in a time of 1hr-38min

also well done to Donal Gallagher who is getting back into form when he won the Craigavon 5k Park Run on Saturday Donal finished the 5k course in 17-05. Well done lads!
