Athletics: Busy week of action for Sperrin Harriers

Twenty Sperrin Harriers travelled down to Limavady last Thursday evening for the Jude Gallagher Memorial ‘Round the Bridges’ 10 miler.

Many came home with PBs including Ryan Treanor (63.05), Jeremy Dobson (71.30), Toirleach Gourley (73.14), Jason O’Neill (73.39), Joe Loughran (76.21), Patsy Hughes (76.38), Nathan Rea (84.08), Adrian Rea (85.25), Fiona Devlin (87.02), Nicola Rea (90.53) and Maureen Mallon (99.07).

Tommy Harraghy also picked up third in his category with a great time of (70.59).

Strong performances were also put in by Ashley Hughes (66.08), Gary Ward (73.16), Kevin Devlin (73.16), Damien Kerr (73.43), Barry O’Neill (75.53), Darren Warnock (82.58), Hannah Su (83.47) and Ciara Coyle (99.08), just back from long term injury.

A great evening was had by all and congratulations to Springwell Running Club for a well organised event with great refreshments and banter afterwards.

Gavin Corey was on the podium once again at Glenswilly 5k in Donegal last Wednesday. 15:49 gave Gavin a hard earned 3rd place.

Tullysaran 10k- Humid conditions and hill after hill was the order of the day at the inaugural Tullysaran 10K last Saturday.

This testing course took the runners through the villages of Benburb and Blackwater Town and then up a tough hill back into Tullysaran.

Congratulations to Harrier Natalie Hall who was first lady home in a time of 42.38 and also to Vincent McAllister who was third across the line in 37.36.

Sperrin Harriers were also represented by Toirleach Gourley who finished in 45.43 and Ciara Coyle, making her way back from long term injury, who completed in 53.22.

Dromore 10k- Last Saturday also saw the Dromore 10k take place over its new revised route. In humid conditions Sperrin Harrier Pauline McGurren picked up third place in the ladies’ race with a time of 41.16, while Paul McLaughlin was first in the M45 category and eighth overall in a time of 39.58.

Week ahead- Ballyhegan Park Stride 10K, Loughgall on Friday 4th July at 7.30pm; Greyabbey 10K on Friday 4th July at 7.40pm; Lisbellaw 10K on Saturday 5th July at 11am.

Stanley Reid Memorial 5M- Sperrin Harriers are proud to announce the running of its annual Cookstown 5 mile classic sponsored by Kirsten Bathrooms Limited on Friday 1st August at 7.30pm.

This year the race has been re-named in memory of Stanley Reid, founder of the race and original Chairman of Cookstown Harriers, the club which reformed to become Sperrin Harriers. More details can be found on Facebook.
