Think of snooker in January and The Masters on television will probably be the image you get, but locally Gervins club is the place to be this Friday night.
That’s the venue for the final of the League Cup and it features the two teams which have dominated the trophy awards for the last five seasons.
Pot Black and Max A set the bar for success in the league and there should be a capacity crowd at the Plater’s Hill venue for what should be a superb match; get there early is the advice to gain a good viewing position in the small arena.
There’s no question about the Cookstown’s line-up as it will be the fearsome foursome of Dermot Loughran, Mickey Quinn, Peter Reilly and Patrick Wallace, while the predicted team on duty for the south Armagh contenders is Barry Hughes, John Maguire, Stevie McParland and Mark Nugent.
As for predicting the outcome, that’s nowhere near as easy a task for any pundit. As is usually the case, guessing the winners would be a whole lot easier when the draw is made - but that won’t happen until a few minutes before the 8pm start at the Coalisland venue.
Before then, action begins in RTM Mortgages Seniors League Division One on Wednesday with three Division One ties: McKees B v Mitchells B, Mitchells A v Max A and Gervins A v McKees A.
Next week brings some intriguing Kildress Plumbing Supplies quarter-final doubles action, handicaps as detailed below:

Jonny McCurry-Kevin Kelly, Mitchells 21 v Gary McNeill-Ryan Starkey, Mitchells 28
John O’Reilly-Francie Mallon, Max 28 v Oliver O’Neill-John Hagan, McKees 14

All four of these matches must be played before or on Tuesday January 12th at 8pm.
