ROUND 5 of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship , the only round run outside of the UK Mainland, will be run at the World famous Desertmartin Motocross track on the outskirts of Desertmartin on the 24th June by the Cookstown & District Motocross Club.
This international event will see riders from all over the UK and Ireland compete against riders from Lithuania, Holland, Belgium etc to take the spoils in the MX1, MX2 and MXY2 classes.
The Championship is wide open in all the classes at the moment and some of our top riders here in Northern Ireland will be out to prove that they can race with the best and will be wanting the top podium places.
Doagh man, Martin Barr, has just changed teams to join forces with Moneymore team, Tyco Suzuki , and judging from his performance for them at Fatcats Moto Park in Lancashire a couple of weeks ago where he was the overall winner in his class he will be wanting nothing less than the top spot.
Graeme Irwin from Carrickfergus will be out to show what he can do in the MX2 class. Son of former road racer, Alan Irwin, Graeme is one of the best riders to watch.
His exuberant style and desire to win means he is a dream rider for the spectators to follow around this fantastic race track and he will be out to win at “The Desert’, a track he has described in interviews as his favourite track in the world.
World Superbike Rider, Jonathan Rea’s team, JAR Honda, will be in attendance with Wayne Garrett going for a top ten finish in the MX1 class and Michael McCammond hoping for a good finish in the MX2 class. Our own club member, John Meara, will also be hoping for a good finish in the MX2 class while his younger brother Jason will contest the MXY2 class.
So it will be all to play for on the 24th June as each of the classes have a full entry.
