THE Cookstown Snooker League has now reached week 3 of a hard and gruelling programme with some of the best players around Cookstown involved.
James Winters from Dungannon who is the newest member in this star studded League played his first match against last season’s winner Brian Milne. Details concerning this match were very thin but the highly talented player from Magherafelt won the match by the scoreline of 3-0. Brian was in devastating form as the headline suggests, for during this match he threw in a brilliant break of 109 which is his second century after only three matches.
Joe Loughran who gained his first point last week travelled to Pot Black in order to cross the path of Micky Quinn. The first frame was a cat and mouse game as both were trying to give nothing away but Micky won this frame with a small break of 27. Micky is a very hard player to grind down and his years of experience has paid dividends as he took the second which had a 48 break to secure a 2-0 lead. Joe had to dig deep as he clawed back the next which he won on the colours. The final frame of the night started at a brisk pace with the ‘Mighty’ Quinn taking a good lead but young Joe retaliated leaving the match to be decided on the colours.
The result went to Micky Quinn when he potted the pink leaving a score-line of 3-1. At this stage it’s too early to predict a winner but Micky is unbeaten and is sitting firmly on the top with Brian only two points behind.
