Harvey Barnes enhanced his growing reputation even further by beating almost 40 of Ireland’s elite U16s when winning Sunday’s Westport Youth Event in County Mayo.

Thirty seven U16 elite boys from across Ireland took part in the 45km race.

The previous day he finished third in a 6km Time Trial which was a selection test for the 2015 Youth Olympics.

On Saturday, Cycling Ireland held their first selection event (6km Time Trial) in Westport for the Youth Olympics 2015.

Approximately forty U16 riders competed. Harvey picked up third place in this event.

The East Tyrone club’s talented Youth star has just been selected on the Cycling Ireland Talent Team for the forthcoming Youth Tour of Scotland.

The exciting event will be held near Perth over the Easter weekend.

Harvey’s first outing on local roads this season will be in the U16 Event at his own club’s Cicli Sport Grand Prix which will be the first of four selection races for the European Youth Olympics.

Meanwhile, the Steady Saturday runs for Leisure Cyclists are under way leaving Asda Car Park at 9.30am.
