Eagles team in place for new season

THE Eagles Special Olympics Club held its annual general meeting in O’Neills Lounge, Coalisland on Thursday last and a large crowd was in attendence.

The evning commenced with Chairman Austin O’Neill reflecting on a fantastic first year at the club and thanking the many Athletes, Families, Volunteers, Sponsors and Supporters for their input. Martin McKenna delivered the Treasurers report and Club Coach Paul Sweeney explained how the year had went from a sports point of view and the plans for the new campaign.

The large crowd then had the opportunity to nominate and elect the officers for the new season and a number previous officers were returned for a second term. There are a number of new faces on the senior committee and a number of new members in the Eagles committee in general.

Austin O’Neill was returned as Chairman and Assistant Chair will be Barry Mulgrew, a new Secretary was elected in Jackie O’Hagan whos Assistant will be Briege Coyle. Another new face on the team is Nicola McCrory who will take the post of Treasurer with Sinead McGerr the assistant. Debbie McDaid returned as Medical Officer with Seainin O Hagan as assistant while Head Coach will again be Paul Sweeney with Assistant Coach being Joanne Sweeney. The Athlete Protection Officer is Emer Loughran with Martin McKenna assistant. Michael Quinn is our Athlete Representative on the board.

The general Eagles Committee will be made up of Gerard Quinn, Kimberley Spence, Laurence McCrory, Fionnula McGrath, Margaret Cunniffee,Holly Sweeney, Johnny Rushe and Elizabeth Spence.

The above Eagles Club management team and committee will be in place until October 2013 which will incorporate the Ulster Final in June plus a number of other events and activities throughout the coming year.

The AGM also included a number of thank yous to sponsors D’Mac Engineering and Crevagh Generators plus fund raising ventures including Declan McShanes Charity Maracycle in June, David Magee and Oliver O’Neills Married Men V Single Men Charity Football match in July and also to Stephen Magee, Raymond McKee and Shane Devlin who are the organisers of the annual Mary Magee Darts Tournament. The club also paid tribute to Primate Dixon Primary School for the use of their facilities and in particular Anne Mitchell and Martin McKenna for all their help.Thanks too must go to ACE Coaches Dungannon and First Trust Bank for the Templemore Games trip.Finally thank you to O’Neills Bar and Lounge for giving us a base to work and the use of the facilities for launch Night, Quiz Nights and Club meetings.

There are far too many individuals to mention who have helped in other ways but you know who you are and thank you from all the Eagles SO Club Team

The plan for 2013 is to continue to grow the club and develope the Athletes and Volunteers in health and fitness plus to raise awareness of what we do and to help educate and improve the team in all aspects of Special Olympics. There are essential dates in the diary including the club quiz night on Nov 2nd in O’Neills, First Aid and Child Protection Courses within the club enviroment and of course the Ulster Special Olympic Games on 28th and 29th of June.
