East Tyrone CC victory march

EAST Tyrone CC riders amassed an amazing three victories at open level over the weekend.

No mean feat in the competitive world of cycling where there can only be one winner in each race. To put it into perspective a number of clubs would consider one open victory in an entire season as a successful season.

The first of these victories came courtesy of Gary Jeffers when he won the A3 race in supreme fashion at the Lakeland Grand Prix on Saturday. It wasn’t long before the second victory was provided by Darren Irwin in the A4 race at the Lakeland Grand Prix. Irwin is in scintillating form, taking his second open victory in six days. In doing so he gained enough points to move up the category rankings and will now compete at A3 level.

East Tyrone CC youth riders were also in action over the weekend at Drogheda in the prestigious two day Ras na nOg. There were three events held over the two days for three different age groups, namely under 12, under 14 and under 16. On Sunday East Tyrone’s Jake Gray emerged victorious as the overall winner in the under 14 category winning two of the events along the way.

Other East Tyrone riders Harry McComb and Lee Somerville placed well in the under 16 event.

Sunday also saw the opening round of the Ernie Magwood Super Six Time Trial League. Clann Eireann’s John Heverin took the win by recording the fastest time over the Toome course.

Moving onto the club racing scene, the second round of the Coopers Motorcycles Time Trial League was held on Thursday evening past.

Gary Jeffers proved the man to beat when he recorded a time of 21 minutes and 32 seconds over the 10 mile course. Competition for the remaining podium spots was fierce with a mere 2 seconds the difference between 2nd and 4th.
