Mansell takes Magee victory

O’Neill’s Bar Coalisland was the venue on Saturday for the 2nd annual Mary Magee Charity Darts competition. This year the event was aid of the Eagles Special Olympics Club.

From start to finish the calibre for darts was top class with both men highscoring from start to finsh. McBride took his chance in the first game hitting double 14 first dart to take a 1-0 lead. That made Mansell step things up as he started the next leg with a 180 and won it with 16 darts to make it 1-1. Mansell then took the lead with a great 15 dart leg including a 120 checkout to give him a 2-1 lead. Mansell then had a chance to increase the lead even further but he missed double 10 for an 18 dart leg. McBride almost won it with a 106 checkout, however after Mansell missed his double again Mcbride took the chance this time and finished on double 20 to tie the game again 2-2. Into the 5th leg of the match and Mansell hit back with an amazing 13 dart leg for a 3-2 lead. Mansell then took the next leg aswell for a 4-2 lead. Mcbride hit back again in the 7th leg with an 18 dart leg to make the score 4-3. Mcbride then missed the bull for 130 checkout in the 8th leg to tie the game and that let Mansell in to take the leg and take a 5-3 lead. The darts just got better and better as the final went on as Mansell hit 171 to leave double 12 for a 17 dart leg to increase his lead to 6-3. Into the 10th leg and Mansell produced a great 17 dart leg to win the match 7-3 and take home his metal and perpetual trophy.

The whole event was a great success and towards the end the total raised for charity was between £700-£800.

The Organisers would just like to Thank Marcol engineering who were the main sponser of the event and to the Magee familly, R.McKee, Kmac, O’Neill’s bar and anyone else who sponsered the dartboards and stand for the event. Also a thanks to the people who took the time to make the food for the event and the bar staff who served the players thier beverages all evening. and finally a big thanks to all the throwers who showed up and gave time for this great event and hopefully next year it will be bigger and better.

The league will have a committee meeting in O’Neill’s Bar on Thurs 13th September at 8:30pm. This the time to register the teams for this years league so each team that wishes to enter the league this year must send a representive to the meeting along with the entry fee and player list for the new season. Registeration will close on the night so if your team is not entered there is no second chance. The league will then start on friday 28th September.
