MID Ulster ladies were unable to repeat last season’s success away to Northern. It was a game which could have been won had all the opportunities been taken. In the first half M Johnston’s rink picked up two 4’s against K McKenna’s rink which proved decisive in the 13 – 6 win.
The Mid Ulster rink did not deserve to lost by 7 with the Northern backend playing excellent bowls on several occasions to prevent the Mid Ulster rink picking up shots. On mat 2 D Young found herself skipping as a result of late changes and her rink put up a good show in only going down by 12 – 9 while on mat 3 S Anderson’s rink played well in gaining a 10 – 8 win and were unlucky not to pick up a few more shots.
With only 8 shots in the game at the interval, all was still to play for. On mat 1 B Davidson and T O’Neill were never far apart.
The Mid Ulster rink had opportunities to win the game and on another day probably would have . They did have an opportunity to pick up a 5 and at the same time there was an opportunity on mat 3 to pick up a 4 which would have left the game virtually level.
The mat 1 game finished 7 – 7. On mat 2M Rocks’ rink came up against an inform C Murray for Northern. The Northern rink dominated their game winning 12 – 2 taking every chance they had. On mat 3 E Wright’s rink picked up Mid Ulster’s other win with an 9 – 7 score. Again it was a game where the margin could have been greater. The ladies now play in the shield competition.
