Saturday at Killymoon saw the qualifying round for the Greensome Shield matchplay competition and a large turn out encountered a mixed bag of conditions.

As the day progressed ranging from bright sunshine through to some thundery downpours, what was consistent was the quality of scoring with some fine returns needed to book a place in the matchplay stages for the top eight pairs.

Finishing top of the pile with a net 61.6 were Kenny Montgomery and Brian Thom and as fate would have it their opponents in the match play stages are their playing partners on Saturday Cyril Rafferty and Robert Langridge who qualified eighth overall with a net 67.

The other pairings see Hughie Devlin and Eamon Quaile (62.8) play Mark Wilson and Michael Haycock (65.8); Lorcan McCoy and David McPartland (64.2) play Jack Moore and PJ Conway (65.6) and David Cooper and Hugh Doyle (64.8) face Robin Stevenson and Stuart Gillis. The quarter finals has to be played on or before Sunday 27th July.

Also to be played for that date is are the quarter finals of the Traders Cup event and the draw for this is as follows: Oisin Monaghan v Dermot O’Neill; Kevin Wilson v Tiernan Hampsey; Tom McQuaid v Eoin Mallon; Colm O’Hagan v Sean Og McKenna.
