Forster Cup final
Rainey Old Boys III 24
Dungannon IV 8
The youth of Rainey III proved just too much for a more experienced Dungannon IV in the final of the Forster cup at Ravenhill.
Leading 17-0 at the break, Rainey saw their advantage whittled down, but came back well in the closing stages to win 24-8.
While Dungannon had the edge up front Rainey, even without Murray and McIvor, had the pace in broken play to do damage and with out-half Walls kicking astutely, they scored tries through hooker O’Neill and centre McBride. Walls converted both and kicked a penalty.
Full-back O’Neill had to retire through injury and was missed and with Dungannon asking the questions in the third quarter, Rainey had to work hard to stay ahead. A late try from replacement scrum-half Smith enabled them to breathe more easily.
