Rainey OB 2 52-5 Clougher Valley 2
RAINEY O.B. 2 had too much pace behind the scrum for Junior League opponents Clogher Valley 2 when they met in a pre-season friendly at Hatrick Park. Their superior fitness told in the second half when they ran in four tries in 15 minutes and a last minute try left them 52-5 winners.
Early handling errors were inevitable with new partnerships throughout the side, but when they found an understanding, the Valley cover was cruelly exposed.Young out-half Connolly converted six of the eight tries, the first of which, from Cassidy, followed a miscued Valley penalty to touch that cost them a lot of ground.Valley were lucky to escape when breaks by centre McGlaughlin and left wing Rainey came to nothing, but when, following a counter attack, play was switched acrossfield, big prop Best had a simple ron in. A friendly bounce helped Valley to their try, but Rainey were soon back in business with wing Campbell placed for try number three.
Valley were taken apart in the third quarter as Rainey took quick frees and penalties to create oceans of space which Mc Glaughlin, Rainey, Campbell and Cassidy made the most of. A last minute score from Sargent took them to the half century mark.
