At the Two Stroke Racing Supporters club awards which took place in Skerries on Saturday night past, Cookstown’s Baylon McCaughey was the winner of the “Services to Sport Award”.
He may have retired from the sport earlier this year but it isn’t just the competitive side of the sport that Baylon has been recognized for. Only a few weeks ago at the Cookstown Council Civic awards ceremony he received a large piece of crystal for his achievements and Services to the Sport, and on Saturday night was shocked when he learned that he was the 2012 winner of this unique award from the TSRSC.
In the past, winners of this award have included Former Isle of Man TT winners and Grand Prix competitors; Eddie Laycock and Con Law, etc.
Baylon’s passion for the sport, along with his untiring work behind the scenes certainly have not gone unnoticed by both the TSRSC and Cookstown Council, and earlier in the year, he received momentos from both Mondello Park and Ride Ireland for the same reasons, This is indeed a fitting tribute to the popular Cookstown journalist and photographer.
The TSRSC awards night saw a massive attendance at Ollies Bar in Skerries, where Davy Morgan collected the Gary Dynes Trophy, sam Wilson won the Steve Ward trophy , with Brian Mateer and Sam Dunlop being winners of Special awards for their performances during the 2012 season on two strokes.
