Mossley and Banbridge are tops in Larne Sevens tournament

Fourteen teams from as far away as Portrush, Banbridge, and Bangor along with local sides from Mossley, Ballyclare and Civil Service took part. For the second year in a row Banbridge won the ladies’ section while Mossley made it back-to-back wins in the men’s section. The winning trophies were presented by Larne’s deputy mayor Mark McKinty.

Everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable day and special thanks goes to Larne Borough Council for assistance with the pitch, Larne Pigeon Club for use of their facilities throughout the day and Wonder PR who sponsored Player of the Tournament prizes.

Pre-season training

newly-promoted Larne Ladies will commence pre-season training twice a week from Monday, July 2 (7pm) at Antiville Playing Fields and on Wednesday (7pm) at Larne High School.

A number of friendlies and tournaments are also scheduled for August and early September as the local side prepare for life in Ulster Hockey’s Senior 1.

The club’s key objectives for the season is for the 1st XI to consolidate its position in Senior 1 and to achieve promotion for the 2nd and 3rd XI.

All members including the under-13 and under-15 squads are asked to attend and any new members are also very welcome. Although club coach James Dodsworth will be working with premier side Armagh this season, he will continue to coach at the Larne club along with Andy King who has extensive playing experience and is keen to move into senior coaching.

Junior Hockey

The junior coaching sessions finished on Monday, June 25 with a mini fun tournament with teams invited from Mossley.

the sessions were open to all but the club was encouraged to see a number of boys of various ages attending the sessions.

Larne Men’s Hockey Club has been in existence for over 100 years and it would safeguard the future to have a structured junior boys’ coaching programme in the borough.
