Rugby boys hit the assault course

Ballymoney Under 17s Rugby Report by Uel McDowell

On Saturday 11 January as the Senior Club pitches were unavailable for training, the Town Under 17s rugby team were invited to take their enthusiasm to The Dirraw Farm Complex to tackle an assault course as preparation for their forthcoming Cup match with Ballymena.

The boys were fully committed to their tasks as they tackled various challenges including rugby drills, fitness work, cross country running and an assault course along the way, finishing with a water run and hill climb.

Following this thoroughly enjoyable experience, their hosts generously provided the lads with welcome refreshments.

The season so far for Ladies Hockey Club

The local girls started the season with a comfortable 4-0 home win against Donaghadee before slipping up the following week with a 1-1 draw at South Antrim. Having stepped up a league after last season’s success, Ballycastle faced local rivals Ballymena at the Showgrounds and produced a devastating display of hockey, coming away with a 9-0 victory. One nil wins followed away against Coleraine, Bangor, Malone and Instonians before the girls lost their first game of the season with a disappointing away game against Banbridge, the score, 2-1. The girls bounced back with an impressive away win against league rivals Queens at The Dub. Victories over Ballymena, Donaghadee and this week Coleraine keep the girls one point clear at the top of the league with 6 games remaining. Add to that a quarter final Ulster Minor Cup match at home on the 25thof January against Dungannon and the girls have a lot to play for!! With a great squad ethic the girls are in a superb position and with the help of Club Sponsor Halo Nightclub Ballycastle they hope to be celebrating come the end of March. All remaining games are at home so keep a look out on their Facebook page for schedules.
