Dungannon 1st XI continued their league campaign by hosting Priorians 1st XI on Saturday
Priorians started the sharper of the two teams putting the Dungannon defense under early pressure.
The Dungannon team defended well however the continuous pressure caught Dungannon players out of position to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead.
This spurred Dungannon on and the play started to flow with some great linking play between the midfield and forwards. The Priorians keeper was in fine form and thwarted the attacks from Dungannon’s front three.
Undeterred Dungannon continued to push forwarded and a quick free from Lynda McQueen found Stacey Lee on the penalty spot who hammered the ball into the back of the net to bring the game back on level keel.
With a new found confidence with the Dungannon side returned to the excellent passing game from the previous week which resulted in a further two goals from Lee from open play and McQueen from a penalty corner to leave the scoreline 3-1 at the half time whistle.
The second half saw both teams with further opportunities to add to the score line. The Dungannon defensive team worked tirelessly to foil the opposition attack and supply the midfield and forwards for the counter acts.
Dungannon’s team effort was rewarded when great interlinking play from Elliott, Lee and Mckay saw the latter slot the ball past the keeper to leave the final score 4-1.
Player of the match was Karen Elliott.
Many thanks to Norman Purdy for coaching, Jennifer Hobson for umpiring and to the faithful supporters for braving the weather conditions.
