Rainey 2nd defeat Ballynahinch

Rainey 2nd XI – 5

Ballynahinch 2nd XI – 0

RAINEY 2nd XI secured 3 points on Saturday with a win over Ballynahinch.

After last weeks frustration in front of goal the girls made up for it this week with some top strikes on target.

Rainey dominated from the whistle with Christine McClure getting the first goal after only a few minutes. There was some great interchanging play between Shauna Donald and Lindsey Morrissey down the right wing where the drive to the back line resulted in two balls into the penalty area for Christine McClure to slot home and bring the tally to three for the home side. Rainey maintained possession throughout the first half with the Ballynahinch team only gaining access to the Rainey goal area on two occasions but strong defence from Rainey soon got them on the offensive again. Near the close of the first half Christine McClure got her fourth of the day with an unstoppable blast on target.

Ballynahinch started off the second half well and put the Rainey side under pressure in their own half. The defence was solid and some great work between them allowed Robyn Hastings to provide long balls through the Ballynahinch line to set the Rainey forwards up with opportunities to test the opposition. The Ballynahinch defence were unable to cope with the stress they were being put under which resulted in multiple penalty corners and a further Rainey goal after some lovely skill from Shauna Donald. The girls played some great hockey and could have extended the score line further but the total remained at five on the final whistle.

Woman of the match – Christine McClure. Team – N. Badger, K. Stewart, S. Barfoot, J. Thompson, R. Hastings, L. Walls, L. Morrissey, C. McNally, L. Gregg, S. Donald, C. McClure, G. Kelly, S. Reid.
