Skillen calls it a day as Head Coach at Larne

Raymond Skillen has stepped down as Head Coach of Larne Swimming Club.

During his 14 years in the role, Skillen has overseen the development and creation of one of the biggest age group clubs in Ulster and Ireland.

Peter Hill has accepted the role of Head Coach at Larne, where he has assisted Skillen for the last year.

He will lead the Senior Club, with solid a group of coaches and teachers.

Edith Skillen is following Raymond and will be leaving the Learn to Swim programme. A statement, emailed to the Times, read: “Larne SC extends its warm thanks and gratitude for all the years of service. We also wish Mark Skillen all the very best as he also steps aside from the junior club.”

David Stronge will be taking over the Junior Club assisted by Kerry Gorman in the Learn to Swim progamme.

The Minor Schools event, held at Ballymena Leisure Centre on Saturday, saw many club swimmers compete for their schools.

Over 30 Larne members competed at all levels, achieving gold, silver and bronze with many personal best times achieved.

The next challenge is the Ulster Open Championships, set to be held this weekend at Larne Leisure Centre.
