Sprint double success for Smyth

EGLINTON Paralympic double gold medallist Jason Smyth will return home to a hero’s welcome today (Monday).

The 25-year-old claimed his second gold medal of the London Paralympic Games when he finished in first place in the T13 Men’s 200m final, on Friday night.

The Usain Bolt of the Paralympic world took gold in both the finals of the T13 100m and 200m in Beijing four years ago and after securing gold in last weekend’s 100m sprint he successfully defended his crown when he cruised to victory in the 200m on Friday.

Once again the Sparta runner destroyed his own world record with a final time of 21.05 seconds, shaving off an incredibly 0.9 seconds from his previous record.
