Tobermore Utd. 3

Larne 1

TOBERMORE Boss Oliver McAuley had only 14 fit players to choose from for last Saturday’s home game against Larne but another solid all round performance helped cement their mid table position with a deserved win over the Inver men..

The game began at a lively pace with Larne benefiting from the strong breeze in their backs but it was Tobermore who broke the deadlock with only 7 minutes gone when Neil Lamont beat David Henry from the edge of the box.

The lively Paul Maguire almost brought the visitors level a few minutes later but he dragged his shot wide when in a good position.

At the other end of the pitch Davy Patton had two good efforts well saved by the big stopper Henry who also did well to palm a goal bound Sean Henneghan header around the post.

Maguire for once out jumped the Tobermore defence and got his head to a cross inside the box which Sammy Foster was very pleased to see go past his post.

The next goal was going to be very important and both sides were guilty of missing chances..

Henneghan went close at the start of the second half when he hit the base of Henry’s post directly from a corner but on 60 minutes the hard working Stuart Miller got Tobermore’s second goal when he shook off his marker inside the box and found the bottom corner with a neat finish.

With 15 minutes to go Maguire got Larne back into the game with a goal that his work rate deserved when he capitalised on a mistake in Tobermore’s defence.

The goal gave Larne a much needed lift and for a while they upped the tempo and went looking for an unlikely equaliser but on 83 minutes Patton reacted quickest to Miller’s near post corner and bundled the ball over the line to restore Tobermore’s 2 goal advantage.
