VILLAGERS FACE DUBS

They are due to face Dublin kingpins North County at The Lawn with a 12.30pm start.

The villagers will be anxious to get the game played but the weather forecast for the end of the week does not look good

It may mean that the game will be washed out and played instead on the reserve date of Sunday, July 15.

This will deprive Waringstown of home advantage and they will have to travel to Dublin.

Waringstown are the holders of the Bob Kerr Irish Cup and face a side who recently have had their fair share of wins in the competition.

The Dubliners won the trophy for the first time in 2001 and followed this up with further triumphs in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2008.

Already in this season’s competition they have knocked out NCU side North Down.

However their form has suffered in division one of the Leinster League where they sit second from bottom, having won only one of their five matches.

Irish international John Mooney is a key player for North County who also have former Ireland batsmen Conor Armstrong in their ranks.

As well they have two Irish under 19 players in Adam Coughlan and Shane Getkate who had a contract with Warwickshire.

Waringstown will be at full strength and will be looking - either this weekend or the next - for another win over the side they defeated in the second round on the way to winning the trophy last season.

Meanwhile Lurgan will be looking to get their season up and running again this Saturday.

They travel to play Donacloney who have crept up to third in the table with three wins and a tie in six games for 14 points.

Lurgan are two points ahead on 16 having won the four league games they have played this season.

But they have been knocked off the top spot by Downpatrick who have managed to play six games, winning five of them for 20 points.
