Deirdre Mayo, local councillor and National Youth Committee of ILCU spokesperson for the credit unions in the area told the MAIL: “There is a real buzz in the locality about the competition. Caitlin is incredibly talented and we wish her all the best ahead of the CU Factor final. She will be competing against some of the most talented young people from throughout the island and we believe she has a real chance of emerging successful.”

Fifteen year old Caitlin, a pupil at St Pius X College in Magherafelt took part in the Portglenone heat and the Northern Ireland final in the Burnavon in June.

Speaking ahead of the final this weekend Caitlin said: “I have had a great passion for music and singing from an early age. I am in the choir and sing at the occasional wedding service. I love all types of music, but I particularly enjoy listening to Irish folk and American country.

“This was the first time I entered the CU Factor and I have really enjoyed the experience. I feel it has increased my confidence and self esteem, and I’ll always be grateful to the Credit Union for giving me that. I am humbled by the support I have been receiving from my friends and family and want to thank them for it. I just hope I make them proud of me on Saturday.”

We wish Caitlin every success on Saturday!
