Time for everyone to move on

IF any football fan thought that the Manchester United v Liverpool clash would pass without any major talking points, then they must clearly be living on another planet. Unfortunately the game will be remembered for all the wrong reasons, as the Evra/Suarez saga continued to linger on.

Crucial three points for Reds

THE Reds returned to their home pitch at Meadowbank last Saturday against a stubborn Heights team for a league game. They got of to a wonderful start when the midfield of McDonald, Bates, T. Brady and Taylor played neat football in the opponents half and created a few chances but found the Heights keeper in fine form.

IT is a fairly quiet weekend in local soccer as only Coagh United and Killymoon Rangers are in action.

Coagh target last eight

IT will be very much a case of winner takes all at Hagan Park on Saturday as Coagh United take on NI Intermediate League outfit Newbuildings. A place in the last eight of the competition is up for grabs and a chance to play one of the Irish League big boys.

Suarez issue still drags on

THE Luis Suarez issue still drags on this week after he made his return to English football following his lengthy ban. I have the utmost of respect for Kenny Dalglish and his ability as both a manager and a footballer. However, he must let go of the issue and move on. Once again last night ‘King Kenny’ informed the assembled media that Suarez should never have been banned.

Seven up for goal crazy Olympic

Irish League review of action so far

ALL four of the local sides will be hoping to achieve their own goals and objectives as the season reaches its climax over the next few months. Seasons can be won or lost in one single game. Here is a review of how the local clubs have fared so far this season and how the closing stages of the season may pan out for them.

Sam says

LAST weekend saw the return of the FA Cup as the fourth round of the world famous competition took place. Of course the major talking point will be the clash between Lancashire rivals Liverpool and Manchester United. The game had been over shadowed over the Suarez/Evra racism saga. I will not pretend to know the ins and outs of the situation but if he racially abused the United left back then he should receive a considerable ban. The disciplinary committee believed he had and he received a fairly hefty ban.

Moyola lose out to Armagh

MOYOLA travelled to Holm Park on Saturday to take on Armagh looking on build on last week’s good performance against Wakehurst. Moyola started the game with player manager Mervyn Pattsion and new signing Adrian Whiteside in the starting eleven as he had Kenning, Lucas, Kelly all unavailable.

THE Blues entertained Mountjoy at Spires Park and after a spiky, tempestuous affair with 3 sending offs, emerged victorious.

Thirteen goal haul for Olympic

LAST Saturday Cookstown Olympic played host to FC Larne and after an exhibition of scoring they emerged as comfortable winners by thirteen goals to two. Olympic opened the scoring after 7 minutes with Jonny O’Neill scoring directly from a corner and then doubled their lead on 16 minutes when a Liam Hoy cross was deflected to Conor O’Hare 18 yards out and he blasted home. It was three on 22 minutes from a Mark Loughran corner that Jonny O’Neill flicked on and Liam Hoy headed to the net while it became four on 35 minutes when Liam Hoy put Mark Loughran away but his shot came off the post for Conor O’Hare to tap home.
