'˜Aggressive' drunk-driver banned for 18 months following Draperstown crash

Before Magherafelt Magistrates Court was Eva Lockhart, 27, of Upper Cranlome Road, Galbally, Dungannon, who was fined a total of £325 and banned from driving for 18 months.

She admitted driving while having consumed excess alcohol, having a defective tyre, and fraud by false representation to an insurance company.

Imposing the penalties, District Judge Alan White said he was “not impressed” by the defendant’s aggressive behaviour.

He certified her suitable for the drink-driving rehabilitation course which may entitle her to a reduction in the period of disqualification.

A PPS lawyer said at 12.30am on February 15 police were called to a report of a one vehicle accident at Tobermore Road and, on arrival, found the vehicle with severe damage to its front and nearside.

She said the female driver was helped out of the vehicle and became aggressive towards police officers when asked if she had been drinking.

Counsel said defendant later said: “I made one mistake - I admit I was drinking.” She later provided a breath specimen which showed a reading of 78mgs.

A defence lawyer explained that Lockhart had fallen out with her boyfriend on a night out and had driven off, resulting in the road accident.
