Ballinderry filmmaker's short to be screened at Cannes and Belfast Film Festival

Conan McIvor a former pupil of St. Mary’s Grammar School in Magherafelt, is no stranger to success, with his most recent production ‘Mother’s Milk & Cookies’ accepted to the Short Film Corner at the Festival de Cannes 2016. 

The film tells the story of a middle-aged gay couple struggling with coming out. 

Next Saturday [April 23], his film Good Boy will screen at the Queen’s Film Theatre in Belfast.

The film focuses on the character Alice who decides to search for the child she gave up for adoption before her imminent death. Mark, a divorced doctor risks becoming more estranged from his son by continuing to prioritise his work.

A chance encounter forces them both to re-examine life’s choices.

Conan who studied Interactive Multimedia Design at Ulster University followed by an MA in Film and Visual Studies at Queen’s, has also produced “Our Lady of the Tolka”, an experimental short screened on the banks of the Tolka River, Dublin; “Luminous”, a large-scale video installation on the lawn of Belfast City Hall commissioned by the Open University; and “Babble”, an interactive theatre experience for young audiences which had its US Premiere at The New Victory Theatre, Broadway, New York.

The films in the Belfast festival also include talent from throughout Ireland - Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones), Stuart Graham (Hunger) and John Connors (Love/Hate),
