Continuing bad weather hampers clean-up of Ballyronan Marina and play park

Still in a state of disrepair after recent storms, chair of Mid Ulster's environment committee has said the continuing bad weather is making it impossible for council to clean-up Ballyronan Marina.

Councillor Christine McFlynn, who visited the area to inspect the damage, is also warning the public to take care when using the marina and park.

The nearby forest, she said, is still inaccessible.

“I visited the marina to assess the situation following the recent storms,” the SDLP councillor explained.

“There is considerable damage to the play area and, at this time, the jetties are still covered by the Lough, and the forest area is still inaccessible.

“I have been in touch with the environmental team at the Council, but a full inspection of the area and clean up is being hampered by the weather.

“The level of the Lough has fallen slightly and risen again in recent days and there is no point in carrying out repairs with further uncertain weather imminent.

“The council has confirmed it will carry out repairs when it is safe to do so and I will be in contact with them to ensure this is completed as soon as possible,” she added.

“Until this work is carried out I would ask residents and walkers to be mindful of the debris and damage and to take care if they are in the marina area.”
