The group of five, who have been taking in the sites of South Africa since last week, visited the safari park on Saturday when the in-heat elephant ran at their safari vehicle and was within inches of making a hit.

Josie Campbell, who took the video clip, said her "screams say it all" about the close call.

Raymond Bell, Brian Curran, Bernie Duffy and Bernie Kerr were also on board the truck when the elephant came after them.

But they have also come across many more placid animals on the tour - including giraffes, lions and even rhinos.
