Gerard seals top prize in style

The course was played to its maximum length with some very tricky pin positions. The course was in outstanding condition and a word of thanks must be issued to Raymond McVeigh and all the green-keeping staff at Silverwood. Captain’s Day glory arrived at Silverwood for Gerard Beattie as he finished top of the 190-plus field. Thanks to a wonderful back nine where Gerard secured 25 points, he certainly closed the competition out in style finishing with 44 points. Michael Molloy posted the lowest round of the day, with a gross score of 67 strokes which accounts to 42 points for second spot, with Thomas Feehan completing the top three also with 42 points. Fourth spot went to Michael Frazer with 40 points beating Thomas Marley by countback who came fifth. The best gross prize went to Patrick Jordan with a 37 gross points, the second best gross of the day was awarded to Fintan McAreavey with an even par 36 gross points. Best front nine scored was posted by Jim McNeice with 23 points, the best back nine score was returned by Aaron Litter with 22 points. The best past Captain prize went to Liam Mackle with 38 points. Best Senior score on the day was submitted by John Clarke with 39 points, but the Senior Cup went to Thomas Feehan who also came third. The Juniors had to battle for two prizes with Jack Doyle beating Oisin Farquhar by countback to take best junior score of the day with 41 points. The nearest the pin competition on the 2nd and 14th holes proved to be very competitive, Michael Haughian being the closest on the second and Jeff Conway coming closest at the 14th hole. Jeff narrowly missed out on a hole in one, finishing an inch away from the hole. The longest drive competition on the 15th was won by Eugene McKeever, and nearest the Captains Drive winner was Chris Lamont Jnr. There were also two visitor prizes, first prize with 41 points was Kieran Murray Jnr. Second best visitor was Adam Smyth with 36 points.
